Summer is still in full swing and The Planning Society teamed up with Sweet E’s Bake Shop in Los Angeles, for an end of summer Lemonade Stand party. We sat down with owner and baker extraordinaire, Erica Tucker, to get her dessert table planning expertise.
I love when a dessert table is the main focal point of a party! To do this right, the dessert table design has to blend with the rest of the party design. Therefore, I always start with a few aesthetic questions:
- What’s the theme?
- What’s the occasion?
- What’s the color scheme?
- Do you have any inspiration photos for the set up?
- Do you have any signage that you are using?
- Do you have any specific desserts you definitely want to include?
For this party the theme was Lemonade Stand for an end of summer party. It’s always an honor to be a part of special occasions, but it’s extra fun to design for a party that’s “just because.” Who doesn’t love lemonade and even more, so who doesn’t love lemonade themed desserts?!!!
The color scheme was yellow, white and pink! I was super excited to hear we could incorporate pink into the mix. As for inspiration pics – Dena Cohen (Founder of The Planning Society) sent me her Pinterest board, which really gave me a great sense of the decor of the party. She also sent me the graphics for the signage so I could match our dessert tent cards exactly, which I love!! This really helps the table tie right into the rest of the party decor. Here is our proof of the tent cards!
When I asked Dena for her dessert requests, she definitely wanted a centerpiece cake and left all the other treats up to my suggestion.
For the centerpiece cake I wanted to incorporate the lemonade stand theme, but with a modern overall look. I love how it turned out! Here is our sketch of the cake design.
All of the other treats were decorated in yellow, white, & shades of light & dark pink. I also love to tie in some extra fun elements to help all the treats pop and come together – for example I added cute yellow & pink paper straws on the cake topper, cake pops & cupcakes. I also used the same style of chocolate drizzle and sprinkles on the rice krispies & cake pops. I even used the same pink swirl on the cupcakes and cookies. These are all simple details that make a big impact to make a dessert table come to life in the center of a party.
